It is our belief at Iliahi Elementary School that school is an extension of the home, where learning and social interaction are taught to prepare our students to be productive members of society. Through the combined efforts of Iliahi Elementary School faculty, parents, community members, and students, a revised dress code policy was formulated. Since we are a drug-free campus, appropriate attire for students, as well as that of our faculty and staff, should reflect the message of a safe and drug-free campus. Parents and visitors are encouraged to abide by the dress code when visiting Iliahi's school campus.
All students should be dressed appropriately for school. The only exceptions to the dress code will be for medical reasons (under doctor's orders) or during School Spirit Week. A note from the doctor or parent must be given to an administrator for approval.
The Iliahi Elementary School Dress Code Policy prohibits:
caps, hats, or visors worn indoors
dark glasses in class (unless prescribed)
make-up (i.e. lipstick, mascara) worn by students
any clothing, jewelry, bandanas, or accessories which depict gangs, drugs, sex or profanity
students without footwear (heels & clogs higher than 2 inches will not be permitted due to safety reasons)
Note: Students are required to wear comfortable covered walking shoes/sneakers for field trips.
long belts that extend more than 4 inches beyond the buckle, exposed underwear (i.e. sagging pants), tank tops, "spaghetti straps"
halter tops unless worn over or under another shirt, backless or bare midriff apparel, see through (sheer) clothing (that reveals body parts)
shorts/skirts must be worn mid thigh or longer
any visible tattoos or markings that relate to gangs, drugs, sex, or profanity
If a student is found to be in violation of Dress Code Policy the student will be brought to the office and counseled. If clothing is inappropriate, a student may be asked to wear a school issued t-shirt or footwear provided that the items are washed and returned the next day. Parent(s) may be called to provide a change of clothing.
If a student continues to violate Dress Code Policy, a parent conference will be scheduled to address concern. Examples of disciplinary options are:
Warnings/Counseling
Detention
In School Suspension
Out of School Suspension
